Fernet-Branca is an intense, aromatic Italian fernet (a style of amaro or herbal bitters) formulated in Milan in 1845 by Bernardino Branca. Famous for its incredibly complex, deeply bitter, and medicinal flavor profile, it features a secret recipe of 27 herbs, roots, and spices sourced across four continents—including saffron, myrrh, rhubarb, and chamomile—aged for a year in oak barrels.

A “Fernet face” is the involuntary, puckered expression people make when taking their first shot of Fernet-Branca, an intensely bitter Italian herbal digestif.
