Christmas Staff Picks – Meg

Now that the days of waking up with a raging hangover on Christmas Day are over (wasn’t Christmas Eve once the best night-out of the year?!), I can fully appreciate a nice drop on Christmas morning. This year, I’m taking home the Farleigh Ridge Classic Cuvée (£30) to pair with our family tradition; bacon sandwiches! With notes of red apple skins and a hint of pithy grapefruit, it’s fresh, refined and beautifully balanced with a rounded palate and subtle complexity. Plus, it’s the most locally produced fizz that we sell with the grapes being grown in Backwell!
As Christmas Day progresses and our attention turns to red wine, I’ll be reaching for the Salcheto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, 2022 (£29). With a robust, grippy structure, hints of leather and notes of black cherry and plum, it’s a fantastic wine to accompany Christmas dinner or those later ventures to the kitchen for a little sneaky grazing, (come on, we all do it!) On that note, no festive season would be complete without some next-level snacks and as a Corks regular you’ll know that the Brets crisp range is particularly irresistible! But salty butter or Fromage du Jura…? Decisions decisions!
