Burns Night Tipple
It’s the end of January and that can mean only one thing for the discerning whisky drinker, Burns Night. The national celebration of Scotland’s bard poet and whisky have gone hand in hand for roughly 200 years. The first celebration dinners might not have had the availability of today’s whisky world but we are happy to recommend a couple, out of many more available from our shops. We’ll start with a whisky from the distinctive island of Arran, the 10YO single malt from the eponymous distillery located in Lochranza, Arran’s main small town. This is a soft and malty style with no discerning smoke , lots of dried autumnal fruit and a lingering spice note.
The second recommendation comes in the form of another island whisky, from the windswept and rugged Skye, comes Torabhaig distillery’s Cnoc Na Moine, an elegant peated malt, with an array of scented citrus fruit, smoky dried almonds and a subtle hint of sea salt. This is the third dram from the Legacy series from this newest distillery on the island and it continues on the same path, offering a gentle introduction to peaty whisky style with more of the elegant smoke and salty notes that is ever present in their approach.
