Tasting Notes

Markovitis Winery (formerly known as Château Pegasus) is a legendary estate in the Náoussa region of northern Greece, celebrated as the first winery in the country to practice certified organic viticulture. Managed by third-generation winemaker Markos Markovitis, the estate focuses entirely on Xinomavro (literally translating to “sour black”), an indigenous grape famous for producing complex, age-worthy wines often compared to Italian Nebbiolo or French Pinot Noir.

This minimal wood influence preserves a clean profile featuring ripe red fruits, leather, tobacco, and Xinomavro’s signature sun-dried tomato and olive notes. It is highly structured with prominent acidity and robust tannins that cellar beautifully for up to 30 years.
